The Whole Truth: A Soccer Mom Story

I officially became a soccer mom this weekend.

Albeit, a mom to a child who has never played soccer before. A mom who does not know that the shin gaurds go inside the socks, not outside. (They looked really cute that way!). A mom whose daughter wore pink Hello Kitty to her first game.

A mom to another daughter who really wanted to be in on the shin-guards-on-the-outside-of-the-socks fashion statement.

A mom to a daughter whose only soccer experience consisted of a few play sessions with her dad.

A mom to a daughter whose mind focuses on being social, even on the soccer field.

A mom to a girl who is passionate about doughnuts.  Especially powdered doughnuts!

A mom to a girl who needed a bit of persuasion to actually do things like, you know,

run and kick.

A mom to a sweet girl who actually kicked the soccer ball into the goal and scored for her team!

{And the story goes like this:  In this age group there are no points taken and pretty limited rules. Around the 3rd quarter I pulled Abby aside, who up to that point had been standing and watching the ball roll right past her feet, to convince her that she would NOT get to choose where we ate lunch if she didn't do some running around and acting like she was interested in the game. She finally began to chase the ball a bit. Most of the time the ball was in the midst of a large group of kids all kicking at it and it not really going anywhere.  If you've ever watched 5-7 year olds play soccer, you know what I'm sayin. Occaionally one of the older kids would break free with it and take it to the goal for a "score." Suddenly, in the midst of that organized chaos, an identical ball to the one being played found its way on the field. To this point I still have no idea which ball was actually the original and which came onto the field. Regardless, one group of kids went one way and another group of kids went another way---each with a ball.  All the parents in the sideline were laughing at the hilarity. Even the ref and coaches were confused! Abby was able to get the ball at that point--since there were only a few kids surrounding it, and she kicked it straight into the goal! The ref called her goal a score for her team. So, now you've heard the whole truth. Abby still does not know this! She thinks
she is a soccer superstar, and I am happy to let her believe it!}

I'm a mom to a girl who keeps calling soccer "football," and I don't think she means the British variety.

Now, I am more than a mom.

I am

a Soccer Mom.
