I just love taking pictures of a two year old.
I'm just kidding. I don't love it.
Audrey Kate started going to a Mother's Day Out for one day a week last Tuesday, so I brushed her hair and put her backpack on her shoulders ---and took her out to the driveway for "first day of school" pictures.
I spent the entire 3 minutes asking her to stand still, look at the camera, stand still, just stand still already!
That wasn't happening. She was, however, interested in showing me her wagon full of toys that had been left out overnight in our front yard. (Our neighbors surely love us for our yard decor!)
I gave up with the picture-taking, but suffice it to say that Audrey Kate had her first day of school and seemed to enjoy it. She even napped on her nap mat, which surprised me a great deal. I can barely keep her in her crib for nap and bedtimes. Those teachers must have magic on their side!
Well, this weekend I finally pulled out some of my Fall decor. I am coming to terms with the fact that I am, indeed, in love with pumpkins. AND WHY WOULDN'T I BE?!
They are orangish, squat, plump, heavy, slimy-on-the-inside displays of God's creativity. (Or sense of humor.) And I just turned right now to ask my husband if a pumpkin is a fruit or a vegetable. SEE? Pumpkins are awesome! What else (besides the tomato and the capsicum pepper) can keep you guessing like the pumpkin?
And just in case you were concerned, I have fully embraced my love for the pumpkin and I am ok with it.
Abby helped me un-earth my Fall decorations from the attic. I noticed that my scarecrows kept going missing, and not being the type to believe that scarecrows can truly animate themselves and walk away, I went searching for them.
I found the large scarecrow in Abby's room, and I guessed that maybe she wanted to use it for decoration. However, things started to get unusual when "Meleah" (as she is now known) began to accompany Abby throughout the house, eating dinner with us, and hanging out with us in whatever room we happened to be in.
I've been singing that song in my head...you know the one from The Fox and the Hound??
You're the best of friends, having so much fun together...
You're not even aware you're such a funny pair...
You're the best of friends!
Abby asked me to get a picture of her and her girls together. I just love that she posed with them like sorority sisters! Now I've just got to figure out how to get her straw-stuffed companions back on the front porch where they belong.
Oh well, surely mine is not the only child who has become attached to something strange. I guess part of parenthood is learning how to embrace the wierd.
Though, now I'm just a little afraid of what might happen when we pull out the Christmas decorations!
