The Eighties Called and Wants Its Tight-Roll Back.

I've been shopping recently for a new pair of jeans.

Wow. The choices.

Stretch, straight stretch, boot stretch, flap stretch, skinny stretch, Low waist, high waist, mid-rise, low-rise, Trouser jean, legging jean, cropped jean, bootcut, flare, straight-leg, wide-leg. Boyfriend? Easy fit? Relaxed fit?

Ultra-low-rise-bikini jean?

No. Thank. You.

Would you like the boot stretch skinny mid-rise in the easy or relaxed fit?

I'm so confused! (Me, crying, on the dressing room floor.)

But I have to say, the highlight of my jean hunting adventure was when the sales girl at the jean store squealed, "You know how these jeans would look so awesome?" She bends down at my ankle and proceeds to adminster...

Oh, yes.

The tight roll.

You mean, I ask, the tight roll is...

making a comeback
?

Oh yes, she bubbles. It's all the rage!

But...But...how old are you people? Don't you remember! How awful it was!? Back then?

And I proceed to go into a hypnotic state in which I flash back to my 80's/early 90's self (granted, I was only a wee lass) and all I can see is the glint of sun shining off my metal braces, the scent of hairspray wafting on the breeze as my stiff-as-a-board hairdo goes unruffled, the baggy shirt, the white-washed TIGHT ROLLED jeans.

I groan.

And as I wander around the store, glassy-eyed and aimless, I begin to see it all clearly.

It is right there in front of me.

The eighties.

They are coming back.

Oh yes.

They are coming back.

Splatter paint jackets?

Big hair?

(I am pretty sure this girl's name is Snooki. I am pretty sure that she is famous. I am pretty sure that I don't know why.)
The skirt/leggings pairing. Does anyone remember when these actually came attached?
White-washed jeans. I have to admit, I was very glad to see these go.
Straight leg jeans.
The jumpsuit?!
And, well this. This just defies explanation.
But it screams, "Eighties!"
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I have been out of the fashion loop for so long, with having babies and whatnot, that I just didn't see this coming.

But, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and see if I can find my Hammer Pant.

And perhaps work on perfecting my tight roll.

You know, it's all the rage.

Too funny. Thanks for the laugh! Wish I had given away my tie-dyed baggy cotton capri things that went so well with my mid-driff mock turtle neck short sleeve top that I wore to the Debbie Gibson concert - with poofy bangs and a side pony tail...those were the days :) May they rest in peace and never truly come back!

HA! Another blog friend of mine took a picture of a denim vest that she saw prominently displayed on a shopping trip last week. Not that this matters much to me; shopping is NOT something I enjoy!

I confess to putting leg warmers on Ginny recently. I actually made them and she looked adorable. I wouldn't wear them, though.

I wasn't born in the eighties but I have to say that alot of my friends do the "big stiff hair-spray style".....even me!

I usually read from my google reader, but I must say...this is insane. I remember tight rolling my pants, but the other day somebody informed me it was "pegging" your pants. Hmmm. I hated the 80s fashion (not that I was that old in the late 80s), but still. Oh, well. What goes around comes around. Soon it will be super bleached Zack Morris blonde hair again.
